The last walk this month, saw my wife, myself and Bob & Lucy (the two spaniels) up on the Malvern Hills. The day had started with torrential rain, but by the time we started off from British Camp the day was bright and sunny. At the Worcestershire Beacon is was very windy, with Bob's ears taking off, but at least the rain held off.
All the walks in October are part of the "Walking The Dog" fund-raising initiative by the Longdogs (www.longdogs.co.uk), in aid of Children's Hospice South West (www.chsw.co.uk).

After 21 miles I ran out of light, legs and time. My backup crew plucked me from bar of the Boat Inn, where we decided to meet, as it wasn't going to be posible to get all the way to Rugby, safely. A sum of £190 has been raised for CHSW, so thanks to all who sponsored me. Especially Stuart, at the Wharf Inn at Fenny Compton, who placed £10 in my hand and said "add it to the pot", despite not knowing about CHSW, the Longdogs, or Seth Lakeman. Unfortunately I wasn't able to return the call to BBC Radio Northamtonshire, who wanted to interview me about the walks, but thanks for showing the interest - Julian "Harry" Procter

LONGDOGS CHARITY WALK
We're pleased to support and sponsor the Longdogs Charity Walk in October
Monies raised will go to one of our favourite charities, Children's Hospice South West.
The initial idea came from Longdogs member Donna Taylor and congratulations go to her for getting this project off the ground. Go to www.longdogs.co.uk for more information about participating or sponsoring this great event.

Last September, Jill Farwell died of cancer. Jill was the executive director of Children's Hospice South West - a charity supported by Longdogs and Show of Hands. She will be greatly missed, as will her work for the organisation.
It was Jill's wish to open a second hospice in the near future (details of her organisation can be found here -
www.chsw.co.uk) and a group of Longdogs is now determined to help make Jill's dream come true.
We are proposing a sponsored walk from Land's End to John O' Groats ... but with a twist. All participants will be able to walk in their local area, and all the miles walked throughout the country will then be added together to form the thousand miles needed to get from Land's End to John O' Groats.
A thousand miles seems like a long way but, if we could get every active Longdogs member to take part, we would only need to walk two miles each.
But the great thing is, you get to choose how far you are willing to walk. It doesn't matter whether you walk one mile, ten miles or a hundred miles, they all count towards the magic total.
And what about your kids? Even if they are only able to walk half a mile, if they have their own sponsrship form it still counts, and they will be able to tell their friends they helped walk the length of the country!
